Before accepting the keys to your new home, our Final Completion (Handover) Inspection ensures everything has been completed to standard. We check finishes, fittings, workmanship, compliance and functionality throughout the property.

This inspection gives you a complete defect list to address with your builder before moving in, saving you time, stress and unexpected rectification costs.

Why the handover inspection matters

Practical completion is usually your last chance to have defects fixed before you pay the final instalment and move in. Once you’ve accepted the home, getting your builder back to fix things becomes harder. A thorough independent inspection gives you a clear, documented defect list to hand to your builder.

What we check

Internal finishes: plaster, paint, cornices, skirting and tiling
Doors, windows, locks and hardware operation
Cabinetry, benchtops and joinery
Wet areas: falls, silicone, fixtures and signs of leaks
External finishes: cladding, brickwork, render, roofing, gutters and drainage
Visible compliance and safety items such as balustrades and glazing

After the inspection

You’ll receive a photo-rich report organised room by room so your builder can work through it easily. Once the builder advises that rectification is complete, we can come back for a re-inspection to confirm the items are resolved.

When should I book a handover inspection?

Book as soon as your builder gives notice of practical completion, and before you sign off or pay the final instalment.

Is a handover inspection the same as a pre-settlement inspection?

They are similar. A pre-settlement inspection is usually for off-the-plan purchases before settlement, while a handover inspection is for a home built under your own building contract. Both produce a defect list for rectification.
